In 1959 Demetrio Zema arrived in the Coonawarra to marry his fiancée, Francesca. His idea was to stay in the area for one or two years before returning to his native Italy. But the Coonawarra was to provide Demetrio Zema with the perfect opportunity to follow his ambitions in the footsteps of his father and grandfather; to own a vineyard and then to grow and produce his own range of wines. In 1982 the Zema family, including Demetrio Zema and Francesca Zema’s two sons Matt and Nick, found themselves the owners of one of the finest vineyards in all Coonawarra, located in the very heart of this important South Australian viticultural region. Today, this thriving winery is managed by Nick and Matt Zema, assisted by a small and dedicated team, including esteemed winemaker Greg Clayfield. The wines are all estate grown and produced and bottled at the winery in the heart of the Coonawarra. The many reviews and awards are a constant reminder of the consistent quality of Zema Wines.
